New First Presidency Announced

It's late in Russia, but I thought this news was worthy of a quick post. Thomas S. Monson, formerly the First Counselor to Presdent Hinckley was ordained on Sunday to be the President of the Church. On Monday he named Henry B. Eyring as First Counselor and Dieter F. Uchtdorf as Second Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church. Boyd K. Packer was ordained as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

As members of the Church we will have the opportunity to sustain these changes during the Semi-Annual General Conference of the Church in April. General Conference is broadcast in meetinghouses throughout the world by way of the Church's satellite system.

These actions still leave a vacancy in the Quourum of the Twelve Apostles, where Elder Uchtdorf was previously serving. Elder Uchtdorf is the Europe East Area's first contact to the Council of the Twelve. He attended our Mission President's Seminar, this past August in Tallinn. Obviously, this assignment will change. I am sure our Area Presidency will miss their frequent contact with this wonderful leader.

We are truly blessed to have such capable and inspired leaders.
