What Does the Rouble, the American Economy and Elder Shepard Have in Common

We are all going down!!

We are now getting 32.5 roubles to the dollar and on the street it is nearly 34r!! The market dropped back to 8100 before getting a lift from who knows where (maybe it was the demise of BAC or the third rescue of Citibank, or was it that sinking retail sales figure?) to settle in at about 8400. Elder Shepard was at, shall we just say, +190 and he is now within a hairsbreadth of 179!! Like the Rouble and the market, there is still plenty of room to drop!! My goal is 169!! Goodbye Russian hand-wrapped chocolates, American Snickers bars, and M&Ms during an internet movie!!

Today, I taught my 5th and final Gospel Doctrine class as a substitute. Next, week we will be in Madrid and then after that we may start up another Preach My Gospel class.

We both had a nice nap this afternoon. Chris is watching a Harry Potter movie on DVD and I have just finished reading the executive summary of an amazing document called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Program, the new stimulus program. The new administration has arrived just in time and given a blank check (howbeit written on an overdrawn account) to spend to their hearts content. Every program on every wish list ever created must be in this bill. Throw as much as you can against the wall. Surely, something will stick!! In truth, it is the mother of all pork. Somehow, I don't think our political leaders believe that the prior levels of consumption were unsustainable (that's on both sides of the aisle!). Surely, this package, which they warn us is only the beginning, will restore home values to their prior levels and then we can all go out and obtain more HELOC (home equity line of credit) loans and go on our merry spending way. Sheesh!!!
